lyrics

Well we look on in horror at the world's monstrosities
Horrors created by western policies
And we point the finger at the Brits, and at the Yanks
But while death ships lie in Shannon, blood is on our hands

"It's strictly commercial" they say with half a wink
But our capital gain is leaving people on the brink
We shut up shop when they inevitably flee

Then they ask you with a sneer if you'd have one in your house
Talking about a human like an object or a mouse
So we "meet them halfway" we lock them up in camps
Where they can barely breathe from the cold and from the damp

And we're all children of Ireland tonight
Black, brown, Asian, white
They have us point at each other instead of pointing their way
Accuse us of stealing sunshine while they're making hay
And we're all children of Ireland tonight
They will not divide us, try as they might
Yes we're all different but we're also the same
When will they realise these lives are not a game
And we're all children of Ireland tonight

An emigrant nation, travellers to our core
So how can we treat them like we were before?
They killed our culture and our language with their Penal Laws
That's why we say howiya, not conas atá?

And still we allow them to frame the debate
That these people aren't allowed in unless they assimilate
To ask them to leave all their cultures behind
Would be repeating the history of a much darker time

And we're all children of Ireland tonight
Black, brown, Asian, white
They have us point at each other instead of pointing their way
Accuse us of stealing sunshine while they're making hay
And we're all children of Ireland tonight
They will not divide us, try as they might
Yes we're all different but we're also the same
When will they realise these lives are not a game
And we're all children of Ireland tonight

From New York to Boston, and Britain's northwest
When we arrived there we did our best
Although we weren't welcomed we were allowed to live free
Give these people that chance and then watch them succeed
Because political names like "Direct Provision" doesn't change that these people are being held like in prison
Oh no, no, no, no no no no

Children of Ireland tonight
Children of Ireland tonight
Children of Ireland tonight
Children of Ireland tonight
